Eyeliners…I might have a small army of them. There are so many out there to try. A couple that have bubbled to the top of my list are below. These are very different liners – one is a pencil (needs to be sharpened), the other is retractable…and price-wise they are quite different.
Do you have a go-to brand/color of eyeliner? If so, PLEASE share…
and take a look at these, if you’re in the market for a new liner:
THE STEAL: Revlon Colorstay eyeliner pencil (link to product at bottom of post)
- Where can you get it: most pharmacies, Target, Wal-Mart etc.
- Cost: $6-$8 (depending where you go, often goes on sale too)
- My color: I usually go with the brown, black is too defined/dramatic for my complexion
Why it’s good:
- It’s retractable – no need for a sharpener…if it breaks, just twist it up and more liner will appear
- It comes in some good/traditional shades
- It LASTS…all day
- It’s waterproof…which is key in the humidity/if your eyes water a lot from allergies
- The price, it’s cheap – and easy to find!
Any cons?
- That it’s not available in more/funkier colors
- Sometimes I need to use a q-tip to smudge the liner around once I apply it – because the line can be harsh/too defined for my taste. I wish the liner cam with a built-in smudger at the end!
THE SPLURGE: Urban Decay 24/7 Glide-On Eye Pencil (link to product at bottom of post)
- Where can you get it: Sephora, Macy’s, Ulta
- Cost: $18
- My color: 1999 ‘glimmering plum’ this deep purple color is supposed to highlight hazel eyes/the gold flecks in hazel/brown colors eyes
Why it’s good:
- I typically don’t like pencils, but this applies really smoothly and the pencil keeps its shape
- Although it doesn’t come with a smudger – it doesn’t really need it because it applies not as dark/defined
- It comes in a HUGE variety of colors – from traditional, to super funky colors (over 20 colors)
- I can wear one coat and go more subtle for day OR wear a couple of coats for a more dramatic/nighttime look, it’s versatile!
- It LASTS…all day
- It’s waterproof…which is key in the humidity/if your eyes water a lot from allergies
Any cons?
- The price…anything over $10 is a lot for an eyeliner, let’s be serious
- It’s a pencil and will eventually need to be sharpened, ggrrr

i HAVE to interject! If anyone is a liquid liner fan then i need to suggest… no DEMAND… they try Make Up Forever’s Eye Seal. (http://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P169812) a drop of this used with any eyeshadow and you can create a liquid liner of any color of your choosing! (I usually do black… but sometimes dark purple to try to bring out the green hues hiding in my eyes) You can seriously use any shadow- even super cheap pharmacy brands- the liner will stay on all day and night (and if you are me and not great at washing your face itll typically still be there the next day) for my Pros and Cons:
Pros: stays on FOREVER, can use this one little bottle to create an unlimited color of liners,
Cons: not as easy to carry around as a pencil (requires the bottle, the shadow, and a eye liner applicator brush) (side note- u dont need to bring it out with you! no touch ups necessary!), When solution dropped directly in powder can funk-up your shadow. I reco using specific shadows for the eyeliner purposes or applying to brush and then dip into shadow.
Added bonus- i use this seal as a primer- put a lil drop on my finger- then wipe it across my lids- and apply shadow as usual.. it really helps the shadow stay on longer.

thank you, Kristi! awesome recommendation! and yes, this stuff does last, I can attest…I often see Kristi the day after and complement her on her liner/shadow and she tells me it’s from ‘the night before’ – flawless haha!

My go-to brand for eyeliner is MAC – Carbon eye shadow:

and I apply it with:

I would die without it. I loooooove the accuracy the brush gives you and it is really easy to get the perfect thickness that you want. Also, I sometimes wet the brush before using, it gives it more of a liquid liner look but is MUCH easier to apply than some of the liquid liners out there. I highly recommend it =)

Love it!! I’ve used the MAC Fluidline (link below) eyeliner with that brush – it stays on FOREVER, but I only use it once in awhile because it’s more dramatic. The brush is amazing, totally agree! – has a good angle to it, makes it so easy to apply.
I want to try the brush with the Carbon Eyeshadow, that might be a better combo for the style I’m going for. Thanks, Marcie!!
