We found Madonna today…

tucked inside of the zippered pouch

Had to post a follow up about the leather doctor’s bag found at the tag sale…we found two identical charms inside. The charms (with the Italian word Ricordo on top – which means memento/keepsake etc.) slips inside the red pouch that reads ‘ovunque proteggimi’ – which we googled, and it means: “everywhere shield me” (from bad things)

At first, we weren’t sure who was on the silver charm – it says: Maria SS. Del Tindari

after some research we found this: Devotion to the Black Madonna has long existed in Europe. The various aspects of the dark-skinned Virgin Mary are considered miraculously powerful and are credited with having protected believers from such afflictions as earthquakes, pestilence, and the attacks of invading armies. Check out the pic on this site: http://www.nyfolklore.org/pubs/voic30-1-2/madonna.html

We’re being super dorks and imagining who owned this purse, where these charms came from…and there are two, it’s fate!

Leisurely Sunday afternoon…chasing tag sales

Robyn's mug...complete with hot pink lipstick

We started with breakfast at McKenna’s, a very good breakfast spot in the Savin Hill area of Dorchester. Robyn sipped snickerdoodle coffee, while I enjoyed banana-hazelnut…what do you do on a warm Sunday afternoon? Our question was answered while driving home – we spotted a tag sale at a Dorchester three-decker. The finds were incredible:

Vintage jewelry (or at least we think so!), an antique glass perfume tray for my Ikea vanity (ironic), and a lipstick stand complete with a little man playing a ukulele…all for under $20

Now 4 of my lipglosses are saved from the bottom of my purse

Robyn – brought home items that would make the guys on Pawn Stars bring in an expert…

First, an old Italian leather doctor’s bag with soft suede interior. Robyn with her sassy Italian style – has a new fall purse, it’s beyond amazing! And, she’s letting me keep the newspaper that was stuffed inside from 1972! Planning to make some type of collage with it (I’ll post the finished product!)

The coolest thing - the charm, and change purse hidden inside

Then, two matching laps…hand painted accents, marble base…maybe something you would have found in your great aunt’s living room in the 50s. But now, Robyn will have beautifully funky antique lamps…a real conversation starter. Mob wives everywhere are jealous

So, while others are at the beach working on their tan – we’re hunting tag sales finding treasures (for cheap!) – call us if you wanna join!

Quick Beauty Tip #2: Swisspers

Quick Beauty Tip #2

Removing eye make up or blending un-even make up can be an annoying part of your beauty routine. My go-to for removing eye make up or blending over-done blush or bronzer = Swisspers

They are essentially, round, flat, cotton pads. Nothing crazy, right? There are other brands out there (other than ‘Swisspers’). For some reason, I always pick up this brand. They’re available at most pharmacies – and I’ve even seen them at The Christmas Tree Shoppe.

Why not a wash cloth? Or cotton balls?

  • I’m lazy, I don’t like to do laundry. I’d rather throw out the dirty cotton rounds when I am done. No, I’m not helping the environment with this one
  • Cotton balls…ohhhh how I hate them. Little lint pieces get stuck on my eye lashes…then sometimes it gets into my eye and I’m blinded for a good 5 minutes. I like the rounds because they stay together, no lint worries!
  • They blend make up well,  and they’re cheaper than the make up sponges that get nnnasty dirty

These are easy and cheap! They’re also great for applying toner. Here they are: http://www.drugstore.com/swisspers-cotton-rounds/qxp163198

Binny’s Bites does it again!

As usual, Robyn came bearing gifts – this time she brought kettle chocolate chip cookies. This girl is so creative!

Main ingredients = kettle potato chips and chocolate chunks.

They were delicious! A yummy mix of salty and sweet.

I got a few close ups of the cookies before I inhaled them all.

I know some people don’t like the word moist – but they were – perfectly moist!

No pudging around

Love chocolate? But also trying to be smarter about dessert choices? (ppfff)

I can’t recall when I first learned about No Pudge…but since it was introduced to me, I’ve consumed many a’ box. I was sold when someone said the words chocolate, no fat, low-calorie BROWNIES in one sentence.

Of course, I assumed No Pudge would taste funky, or be unsatisfying (like many no fat desserts!). BUT, I was beyond excited after my first batch of No Pudge – realizing that they taste like the real-deal. I was convinced this was some type of magical recipe.

The ‘secret’ is, No Pudge uses – fat-free yogurt in place of oil, butter, or eggs. You can also substitute yogurt for applesauce, soy yogurt, or tofu for lactose free brownies.

No Pudge is sold at most grocery stores ~$3.50 a 13.7 oz. box. I usually find it at Stop & Shop. I stick to the original chocolate – but they also have: raspberry, mint, and cappuccino. I once ordered a bulk box off of Amazon.com so that I would have a reserve of No Pudge, it was weird…but I never regretted it. I try to keep a box on hand for when  chocolate cravings strike.

The coolest thing is – you can make a single serving in the microwave in only 1 minute! Aside from the fact that you don’t have to cook a whole batch if you’re cooking for one, there is also no need to wait for the oven to pre-heat. You can make + enjoy in record time

Here is the single serve recipe:

For toppings, I like rainbow sprinkles…or a tiny bit of peanut butter. Hey, it needs some fat.
